There are a total of four categorized parenting strategies, most parents fall under one of these. Reading this can help you decide what type of parent to be, and which kind not to be. So dive right in.....
The first style is Authoritarian parenting, which is a restrictive parenting style. Parents make the child follow their directions with no back sass or else they’ll receive a punishment. Parents that follow this style will usually spank their children if they disobey their rules. Later in life these children will probably be fearful, lack social communication, or behave aggressively if they are a male. The second style is Authoritative parenting, these parents tend to encourage their children to be independent but also limit and control their actions. A parent following this style is warm and nurturant towards their children. They will be willing to passively correct the child’s mistakes and teach them wrong from right. The children under this style are usually outgoing and achieve great things; they hold friendships and cope well with adults.
The third style is that of Neglectful parenting, in this style the parent is much uninvolved in the child’s life and doesn't show much sympathy. A child under this style becomes socially incompetent, has poor self-control, and may enter delinquency later in adolescence. Lastly is Indulgent parenting, in this style the parents are highly involved with the child but place little demands or rules on the child, so they let them do as they please. Thus the child will be egocentric and never learn to control their behavior. They always expect to get what they want and have trouble working with others. The best parenting style is that of authoritative parenting.
