Dr. Seuss', "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?"
Though Dr. Seuss books tend to be enjoyed by all ages, they were initially meant for younger audiences. The simplicity of Dr. Seuss' books helps to aid children in the middle stages of language development. Young infants may enjoy Seuss', "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You!" In it he invents his own words that may sound funny to young ears, which they may want to mimic. Most of the made up words in this book have only one syllable which helps the child's development of phonology when they repeat the words read to them.
This book is also great for children just learning how to read. The pages are colorful and the words are printed in a large font, which helps keep the child focused on the book. The last thing that any child learning how to read wants to do is read a book without pictures or colors. By the time a child begins reading, they already have a pretty complex vocabulary, but seeing the words in context with the pictures helps them to understand even more.

Just like in "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?" this book has beautifully colored pages. The text in this book is much more complex than that of the Dr. Seuss book. Even though it is a story that many children know, for a children's book, there is way too much text crammed into the small pages for a child to keep their focus while trying to read it or having it read to them. This is definitely a book that was written with the intention of being read out loud.
This book is not completely useless for language development though. If a child does become interested in reading this book, they may question the words that they do not know, building their vocabulary even more. Also, just like in "Mr. Brown Can Moo!
